Tour de Yorkshire 2018 host towns announced

Barnsley will kickstart the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire with it visiting four new destinations

The eight host locations for the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire were revealed this week with the race starting in Barnsley and visiting the costal town of Scarborough for a third consecutive year.

The race will grow next year, becoming a four-day stage race, with the women's race also adding a day to its schedule. 

This will be the first time the race visits Barnsley with it also making debuts in Halifax, Ilkley and Richmond. 

As usual, the race will visit Scarborough for the third year in a row. Leeds, Beverley, Doncaster will also see the race revisit its streets in 2018.

Chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, Sir Gary Verity commented on the success of the stage race around Yorkshire and his enthusiasm for the race's growth.

'The Tour de Yorkshire is a true success story and in just three years it has grown to become one of the best attended and most dramatic races on the cycling calendar.'Verity told British Cycling.

“Of course, with the men’s race being extended to four days and the women’s race now being held over two, it means we can visit more parts of the county and I know our eight start and finish locations will put on a real show.'

Director of the Tour de France and A.S.O, organisers of the race, Christian Prudhomme underlined the success of the race going into its fourth year.

'The Tour de Yorkshire has gone from strength to strength over the last three years and we are delighted to be working in partnership with such a great team at Welcome to Yorkshire.'

'The way people get behind the race in Yorkshire is incredible and we are looking forward to another fantastic edition in 2018.'
