The famous mountain will return to the Tour de France in 2018 in the second week of racing

In the latest speculation surrounding the 2018 Tour de France, it has been reported that the race will return to Alpe d'Huez.

After a two-year hiatus, the infamous Alpine mountain is expected to make a return to La Grand Boucle' on Stage 11 of the race.

According to French newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéréthe mytical climb will feature on the second week of racing, two days after the first rest day.

This stage finish on the Alp will also come after the race's first visit to the mountains the day before. Le Dauphiné reports that the first taste of mountains at the 2018 Tour will be the climbs of Côte de Romme and Col de la Colombière on Stage 10.

This reported stage to Alpe d'Huez will also come just three days after the race visits Roubaix.

It was initially reported that the peloton would be racing across the cobbled roads of northern France yet it is now believed that the route will contain only 3.2km of pavè.

The last time the race Tour visited the 21 hairpin bends of Alpe d'Huez, Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) ran away victor in an impressive solo ride with Chris Froome (Team Sky) managing to defend his yellow jersey despite multiple attacks from Nairo Quintana (Movistar).
