Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) is set to make his debut at the Tour de Yorkshire in 2018, in what is set to be a busy Spring for the Manxman. In a report by the BBC, it was suggested that the 30-time Tour de France stage winner would compete in the race for the first time.
The rider also tweeted a video of his train journey to the route announcement in Yorkshire today.
This latest confirmation follows the former World Champion suggesting that he will also ride the one-day cobbled Monument Paris-Roubaix next April.
The sprinter will be hoping to bury the memories of the 2014 Tour. Starting as favourite for the sprint in to Harrogate on Stage 1, Cavendish spectacularly crashed out of the race, with Marcel Kittel taking the victory.
Besides individual sprint success, Cavendish will be looking to retain the overall title within his team after Serge Pauwels took victory this year.
As of 2018, the Tour de Yorkshire will be raced over four days, with the race expanding for its third edition.
Next year's race is set to start in Leeds before visiting the host and finish towns of Barnsley, Beverley, Doncaster, Halifax, Ilkley, Richmond and Scarborough throughout the week.
The women's race that runs concurrently is also set to expand, doubling from one day to two as of next year.
Details of the route men's and women's routes will be announced at 11:00 on Tuesday 5th December.
