Track champion Andy Tennant adds experience to an otherwise young Canyon Eisberg team

British Continental side Canyon-Eisberg have announced five new signings for the 2018 season despite the loss of the primary sponsor. The side, formerly named Bike Channel Canyon, will operate with a 14-man roster throughout the season retaining nine riders from last season.

Former track World Champion Andy Tennant heads up the new recruits, ending three years with Team Wiggins. Charlie Tanfield will join his brother Harry at the team, with junior national champion Louis Rose-Davies and Charles Page finishing the line-up.

Tennant will add experience to what is otherwise a young team that averages just 23.5-years-old, an aspect that made his signature desired by team director Tim Elverson.

'Andy was an interesting one for me. I have admired his riding from afar for some time and he is someone I’ve always kept one eye on tactically,' Elverson said.

'We had a chat and I felt straight away we would work well together. There are still many road goals he wants to achieve.

'Add to that the experience he brings to my young squad and he became someone I was very keen to sign.'

After the TV broadcaster Bike Channel closed its doors in the UK in September of last year, it was uncertain whether the team would continue due to sponsorship fund shortages.

However, co-chief sponsors and bike provider Canyon was able, alongside secondary sponsor Eisberg, to increase its sponsorship funds to ensure that the team continued into 2018.

Another change to note as of 2018 will be that the Canyon-Eisberg team will have kit provided by dhb. This will be the first time that the clothing brand, the in-house brand of online cycling giants Wiggle, will provide kit for a men's professional team.
