A major fire has spread through the manufacturing facility of the headquarters of Shimano in Osaka, Japan. The incident saw around 200 employees evacuated from the building as the fire, which started on the 26th floor, spread throughout the building.
Luckily, no one was reported as injured or missing as at the time of reporting.
By 4pm Japanese time (8am BST), 20 fire engines had been dispatched to deal with the blaze which was first reported at 1:45pm.
Local news reports also stated that notifications of burning within the factory had been reported the previous evening.
Video footage from a local news source shows smoke and flames escaping from the roof of the factory which appears to be in a heavily built-up area.
The fire is now said to be under control, with authorities also suggesting what the cause of the incident could have been.
It is believed that the fire began in the section of factory that anodises components in order to prevent wear and rusting. Within this section is a tank filled with sulphuric acid which local police suspect to be the root cause.
It remains unknown to what effect this incident will have on Shimano's production line. The bike component giant currently operates from this Sakai factory while also carrying out production across the Far East.
