Celebrating the health benefits of cycling, Evans Cycles has launched the ‘Better by bike’ campaign, which is designed to encourage people to cycle. At the heart of the campaign is promotion of the health benefits that cycling offers.
Heart disease kills 150,000 in the UK every year and studies have shown that cycling to and from work can cut heart disease by as much as 46%.
There are also mental health benefits to riding your bike. Cycling can help to reduce stress and anxiety, as well as improving self-esteem and combating depression.
Just 4% of commutes in the United Kingdom are made by bike, a figure Evans is committed to increasing by offering money off new bikes when trading in older models and maintenance classes to help people keep their bike in good condition.
‘The Great Evans Cycles Trade In’ scheme helps riders save money when purchasing a new bike by trading in their older models.
Exchanged bikes are donated to a network of charities to provide people with an affordable and healthy mode of transport.
The leading ride-to-work campaign has so far helped 170,000 people commute by bike, and Evans has pledged to raise this to 250,000 by 2028, an increase equivalent of an extra 504 million miles a year.
Evans is also offering maintenance classes in all 62 of its UK stores to help people keep their bike in good condition.
Run by Evans staff the hour-long classes aim to teach people bike maintenance to keep their bike running smoothly and make their riding a more enjoyable experience.
On the scheme, Evans CEO Alan Fort explains how 'cycling, in all its different forms, has so many benefits for both individuals and our wider society.
'We hope to encourage more people of all ages to get out and ride more.'
