Celebrate your local high street bike shop this Saturday

Local bike shops

The inaugural 'Bike Shop Day' is taking place on Saturday 6th October in a bid to place a spotlight on the great work these small, independent stores do.

Inspired by UK Record Store Day, a similar concept that celebrates independent record stores and is now in its 12th year, the day looks to highlight what sets these small, high streets businesses apart from their larger competitors.

Certain bike shops across the country will be participating in offering things such as bike maintenance courses, special discounts on parts and even a free coffee if you are lucky.

For example, the Altrincham Bikeshak will be hosting workshops throughout the day including 'How to adjust your brakes' and 'How to wrap bar tape' as well as a competition to see who can change an inner tube quickest.

Pop over to Machine Cycling Café in London for a free bike safety checkup as well as a deliciously free cup of Monmouth coffee along with some free hi-vis jackets.

Bikeseven Cycle Service in Longtown will be offering 25 per cent off everything in its Sandilands branch while Belhaven Bikes in Dunbar will be offering the chance to win a free bike service.

Either way, tomorrow make sure you remember that all local bike shops need a helping hand and that they should always be considered before going straight online.
