Black and blue kit for Team Sky next season

Team Sky have revealed their kit for 2019 and it's a (partial) return to the black kit of the team's earlier years. Sticking with Castelli, Team Sky will race next year in a kit that fades from blue on the shoulders down to black at the bottom of the jersey.

This is a thematic choice by the kit's designers, who say the aim is to deliver a message that goes beyond cycling.

'The kit incorporates a blue to black gradient, with the blue being inspired by the team’s commitment to Sky Ocean Rescue (SOR),' the team said upon the release of the kit.

'The SOR logo is also prominent on the collar of the jersey, as the team continues to raise awareness of Sky’s campaign to help inspire simple, everyday changes to stop our oceans from drowning in plastic.'

Front and centre in the photos showing the new kit are Grand Tour winners Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas, and they're joined by young riding talent Egan Bernal.

In the short video, above, it's all japes which shows that the riders remain on friendly terms despite constant talk of how Thomas and Froome may approach 2019's Grand Tours.

At the 2018 Tour de France, Froome's desire for a record-equalling fifth win was frustrated by the superiority of Thomas (and perhaps to some extent, team orders).

'This year’s jersey is a special one for the team as we enter our 10th year on the road,' said team boss Sir Dave Brailsford. 'The design is befitting of that landmark and we believe this year's kit will be our best performing yet.'

Froome also had his say about the kit, stating, 'I love the look of the new kit. It’s a classic design and I can’t wait to race in it in 2019.'
