S4C will be showing live footage and highlights of the 2019 Giro d'Italia with Welsh-language commentary and analysis

With a commentary team that includes the guitarist from the band Pendulum, Welsh-language channel S4C will this year cover the Giro d'Italia in Welsh for the first time. Coverage will include live stages, highlights and analysis all in Welsh and will be available across the entire UK to cater to Welsh speakers outside of the their home nation.

This is an extension of the channel's current cycling offering. Seiclo, S4C’s cycling series, has been showing free-to-air coverage of the Tour de France and the Spring Classics since 2014, and will now bring coverage of the season's first Grand Tour.

Daily coverage will include two and a half to three hours of live action from each stage of the year's opening Grand Tour, along with a 30 minute highlights package each evening.

Following the race from its start in Bologna, across the seven summit finishes and on to Verona for the final time-trial, the Seiclo commentary team will consist of Wyn Gruffudd, Rheinallt and Peredur ap Gwynedd (Pendulum), along with pro riders Gruff Lewis and Dewi Owen.

S4C Sports Commissioner Sue Butler said: 'It’s a pleasure to add another of cycling’s Grand Tours, the Giro d’Italia, to our sports portfolio.

'The Giro is one of the toughest, most spectacular bike races on the calendar, and we look forward to bringing Welsh language coverage of this exciting event to our viewers.'
