Hot on the heels of his dominating performance at the inaugural GBDuro, Education First rider Lachlan Morton has just finished one of his biggest challenges yet: riding the Colorado Trail.
The high altitude multi-day solo race covers around 850km from Durango to Denver, where riders must traverse the mountainous terrains of the Centennial State on bike and on foot.
Morton’s first attempt saw the Australian complete the race in just 3 days and 22 hours - setting a time only 2 hours shy of the all time record.
'I was totally destroyed afterward,' he said. 'It was a pretty wild experience... my goal was to overcome a lot of my own fears, I feel like I’ve done that now.'
Yet the Colorado Trail is just the latest event in Education First’s 'Alternative Calendar', an experimental programme that puts their pros in gravel and endurance races usually preserved for amateurs.
Last month Morton raced the first edition of the GBDuro - a self supported off-road race from Land’s End to John o’Groats - finishing a full 39 hours before the next best placed rider.
Looking ahead, it is only a little over two weeks until the 27-year-old tackles the Three Peaks Cyclocross challenge - endearingly known as the hardest cyclocross race in the world.
