New algorithm will automatically detect any efforts that don't look quite right

Strava has announced a new update that will auto-flag any dubious segment times to ensure better accuracy. The popular training and social media app has 'improved the algorithm behind our auto-detection of segment records that aren’t quite right' in a bid to work harder on cutting down on the number of leaderboards 'that are clearly inaccurate and unfair'.

This change means that Strava will automatically detect any times or efforts that look unlikely, automatically flagging them while also informing the athlete via a notification.

Going forward, Strava has now built a system which will allow users to actively crop the ride to remove the 'unintended data' that Strava says is likely to be an 'honest mistake'. It will also allow you to contact them if the effort was, in fact, real.

To use the new crop tool, you will have to click three dots at the top of the activity before using a slider tool to remove the necessary parts of your ride. This will then automatically update on the open leaderboards.

This comes alongside Strava allowing users to return to activities showing in chronological order.

Last year, the app altered how activities were shown on a user's main feed moving away from appearing in chronological order. It says the move back to chronological ordering 'has been one of the most frequently requested changes ever'.

To return to this previous method, users will have to head to 'Settings', 'Feed Ordering' and then select the 'Latest Activities' option as preference.

This coincides with the option to also customise your feed to be sent notifications of when other selected athletes upload activities.

These latest updates will be rolled out later this week.
