If racing is able to restart later his year as the UCI hopes, 2020 will see the first ever Women's Paris-Roubaix. The race has been scheduled to take place on the same day as the men's Monument, Sunday 25th October.
The information was contained in a wider release put out by the UCI with its latest plans for the rescheduled men's and women's 2020 racing calendars.
Due to the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, racing has been on pause since March with some events - chiefly the Tour de France - seeing their dates changed a number of times already.
As it stands, the latest plans from the UCI will see racing restart on Saturday 1st August, marking the beginning of a hectic few months for the men's and women's pelotons.
Allowing women to race Paris-Roubaix has been a discussion point for a number of years - something race organiser ASO has previously resisted - a situation seen in an even harsher light since the Tour of Flanders has hosted a women's race since 2004.
Before the men's Paris-Roubaix there is usually a junior men's race on the same day, which will likely be moved to accommodate the new Elite Women's event. A long overdue correction.
The launching of a Women's Paris-Roubaix is fantastic news, however, the female peloton may end up having to wait a little bit longer to actually race it.
No one knows where we'll be in terms of lockdowns, public gatherings or anything else when it comes to coronavirus, so the new UCI calendar is as much as a hope as it is a plan.
