Greg van Avermaet and the rest of the CCC Team have been guaranteed 50% of their salaries, regardless of whether racing resumes in 2020, despite the main sponsor pulling out at the end of the year.
The Polish shoe company CCC has confirmed it will not resume its sponsorship of the WorldTour team in 2021 due to the financial implications of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
One of the sport's first major sponsors to go public with its financial troubles, it confirmed in April that all riders and staff would be taking significant pay cuts, with some rumoured to have been up to 80%.
It has since been confirmed by company CEO Dariusz Milek that it will not continue its sponsorship of the team through to 2021 however, after work by team manager Jim Ochowicz, the team will now be paid at least 50% of their original salaries.
Reports in Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad suggest that riders and staff are yet to be paid for April while some are waiting for their March salaries, although this will be soon be resolved thanks to the agreement reached between main sponsor CCC and Continuum Sports - the company behind the team.
Team management is now looking for a new primary sponsor to come on board from 2021. As reported, bike manufacturer Giant is willing to continue its support but is against stepping up as a primary sponsor.
Over the weekend, UCI President David Lappartient claimed he was concerned that up to five WorldTour teams may not reach the end of the season due to the financial implications of no racing.
WorldTour racing is scheduled to start on Saturday 1st August with Strade Bianche.
