Two East London parks will double up as 'Cycle-In Cinemas' later this summer as an 'innovative and environmentally-friendly alternative to drive-ins'.
Leyton Jubilee Park and Pimp Hall Park, Chingford – two Waltham Forest parks – will host evening cinema screenings through August and September giving punters a chance to return to the movies while remaining socially distanced.
Waltham Forest Council has worked with the Stow Film Lounge to establish the cycle-in cinemas from 19th to 22nd August (Jubilee Park) and 3rd to 6th September (Pimp Hall Park), airing a mixture of bicycle-themed blockbusters like E.T. and family-friendly hits like the Shaun the Sheep Movie.
Even better, tickets will cost just £2 – much cheaper than your local chain cinema – or £6 for a family ticket, with all profits being donated to local foodbank Eat or Heat. Additionally, attendees are welcome to bring along their own food and drink for the showing.
All films will be shown from 20:30 with doors opening at 18:30 for customers to enjoy pre-film entertainment such as family craft activities, dance workshops and even a bike mechanic who can give your bike a free 'health check'.
'We are so pleased to be moving our popular Virtual Culture programme outdoors so more Waltham Forest residents, and other Londoners, can enjoy them,' said Paul Douglas, Waltham Forest Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture.
'We continue to support local artists and creatives through this programme. Cycle-In Cinema is a truly imaginative take on traditional entertainment that is doubly rewarding because it has sustainability at its heart. We look forward to welcoming people to green spaces across the borough to events that they can are enjoy knowing that safety is a priority.'
