Happy Tuesday – how are we all doing? I hope you’re ready for Halloween.
This week at Cyclist, we’ve been looking at the Giro d’Italia 2023 route (and its three time trials!) in our stage-by-stage guide.
We covered the new Specialized Diverge STR gravel bike – from a close-up at its rear suspension design to Matthew’s first ride review.
Emma looked at the difference between Mips, the go-to safety system for cycling helmets, and Italian brand Kask’s own approach to safety, and gave us some great advice on the best bib tights for women as the weather turns colder.
Now let’s get into another Extremely Online Round-up before another PM resigns and I have to rewrite it…
Things that lasted longer than Liz Truss
A self-explanatory header. Liz Truss’ tenure as Prime Minister lasted only 44 days (49 if we count the dead-man-walking post-resignation days) and Twitter exploded in a series of memes.

Gif d’Italia

The engaging posters behind the Giro d’Italia account – who helped generate a lot of fan interaction across the three-week race – keep finding ways to tide followers over until next May.
Over the past week, the team posted a Twitter thread that showed riders as famous gifs. From Arnaud Démare as John Travolta in Pulp Fiction…

And even Vincenzo Nibali, who retires at the end of the 2022 season, doing the sad walk from Arrested Development.

Philippe Gilbert’s successor

On the subject of retirements, Philippe Gilbert is another big name that will no longer grace the professional peloton.
Who will fill his cleats, you ask?
Cillian Kelly noted how Gilbert himself suggested that title goes to Adam Blythe, former teammate of Gilbert’s and road race national champion in 2016.
Whatever happened to Blythe? He’s kept a relatively low and quiet profile…
Special shoutout: ‘tis the season to be married

It’s that special time of year: When road cyclists transition from racing to weddings! Several cyclists recently married; Remco Evenepoel, Elia Viviani and Elena Cecchini, Joss Lowden and Dan Bigham all tied the knot over the last few weeks. Not together, but you get me.
How about the lovely cycling artwork above on display at Louis Meintjes and Laura Canes’s wedding? Beyond adorable.
See you next week!
