Wahoo has added a selection of new routes to the Wahoo RGT side of its Wahoo X training platform, for the first time including a gravel slash mountain bike route. The brand has also added a race radio voice chat feature integrated into the app, and included in the $14.99 (approx £13 currently) monthly subscription price.
It's the latest part of Wahoo's ever-widening and increasingly integrated training hardware and software platform.
Wahoo RGT majors on physics in its simulations, so that there’s an advantage from drafting, for example, and cornering means slowing in advance and accelerating out of the turn. The new route, based on a ride in Dunoon, Scotland takes that a step further as it simulates off-road riding, with greater resistance based on the surface you’re riding.
Another feature of the new route is that if you get caught behind another rider in a singletrack section, you’ll need to head off the main trail to pass them. That means putting out extra power, simulating the effort needed to ride off the main trail.
The Dunoon road increases Wahoo RGT’s selection of Real Roads to 13. And of course, since the experience is simulated, you don’t need a gravel bike or mountain bike to ride the gravel courses.
The Real Roads sit alongside Wahoo RGT’s Magic Roads feature that lets you upload a GPX file, which is converted into a ride on your trainer with gradients and bends included.
Wahoo’s James Vickers says that it’s a feature used, for example, by time trialists training for events, as well as by riders just looking to explore somewhere new or ride a classic route.

Another new feature launched on the Wahoo X platform is an integrated race radio chat feature, with a range of channels. So if you’re in a breakaway in a race, you can choose just to talk to riders in the break or in proximity to you, or you can use the race radio to talk to all the riders on the same road as you.
There’s a directeur sportif option too, allowing them to give a team instructions and advice on tactics as they race on the platform.
It also allows Wahoo to offer coach-led group workouts, à laPeloton, and provide instructions throughout a session.
There are new training routines on the Wahoo SYSTM side of Wahoo X too, which Wahoo says brings the range to over 700 different workouts, including off-bike activities like running, swimming and yoga.
Wahoo X now has the option to follow a training routine both outdoors and indoors, pushing workouts from Wahoo SYSTM to Wahoo Elemnt cycling computers. This gives you an integrated view of your workouts, rather than keeping rides indoors separate from outdoor activities, and aims to give a full overview of your strengths and areas to develop through its 4DP analysis.
As well as the full functionality unlocked by a paid subscription, Wahoo X offers a free tier which provides a more limited set of functionality, including allowing you to follow a subset of Wahoo SYSTM workouts and participate in races on Wahoo RGT. For more info head to Wahoo Fitness.
