Tom Pidcock and Ben Swift will both take the start line of their home race, the Tour de Yorkshire, after their selection to the Great British Cycling Team was confirmed. When Pidcock's trade outfit Team Wiggins were overlooked for an invitation to the race he expressed his disappointment, pointing out that the team 'deserved to be there.'
He will now get the chance to compete on home roads wearing GB colours.
Swift will make his return to the race, its fourth edition, after he was forced to withdraw on Stage 1 at the inaugural event in 2015 following a heavy crash.
The race will be his first since another crash resulted in a non-displaced fracture of his vertebrae at the Tour of Flanders on Easter Sunday.
The Tour de Yorkshire men's race starts next Thursday 3rd May in Beverley. This year will be its first at four stages, and Stage 2 will be the race's first summit finish when it crosses the line atop the famous Cow and Calf near Ilkley.
Despite the sting in the tail of Stage 2, it's the fourth and final stage that could really shake-up the General Classification.
Covering 189.5km from Halifax to Leeds, it packs in six categorised climbs and plenty more non-categorised ascents besides. Any rider within a couple of minutes of the overall win could get away on one of the later lumps and push on to take the stage and GC.
Returning this year and doubled from one stage to two, the Tour de Yorkshire women's race will take place on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th May.
Stage 1 looks set to end in a sprint in Doncaster while the summit finish, as with the men's race, will be the conclusion of Stage 2. Whoever crosses that line first is likely to take the overall win too.
